Here is another of my longer pieces I wrote a few years ago. I didn’t think this was erotic enough for Lit. Tell me what you think.

New Mall Cop

Joe E Hartley

“Damn, you look good today!” Simon told his reflection in the bathroom mirror. He had just finished his morning ritual of shaving, moisturizing, polishing his teeth with the ultra-whitening paste he spent a small fortune on every other week, and plucking any stray hairs from his nose and eyebrows.

His hair looked perfect. He used several lotions and sprays to give it that natural look. Admiring his reflection he could swear he looked like he had just stepped off the beach. Blond wind-swept hair hanging low across his forehead and he knew that it would look that way all day.

A new uniform lay across the bed that he’d had tailored to his body. It hadn’t looked right when it had been issued to him. Now form-fitting, cleaned, and pressed, it fit his toned and artificially tanned body like a glove. He spent an extra five minutes in front of the mirror making sure the new clothes hung properly from all angles.

This was the first day of his new job, the perfect springboard for him. He was made for this job, networking with a wide variety of interesting people, each with their own story to tell. He was a good listener and appeared genuinely interested in what others said. He had what others called a sympathetic ear. He got to be outside, and not chained to a desk all day. He got to walk around and enjoy the scenery, seeing new and exciting things every day. Yes, this was the job for him.

He was ready to make his mark on the world with this job, unlike the previous jobs he’d held. Those were only short term and didn’t utilize his talents. The competition for this position had been fierce, showing just how valuable this opportunity was to building a career. His good looks and confidence secured this job for him, and him alone. He placed his newly blocked hat squarely on his head and was ready to make that all-important first impression.

He had only met the manager once so far, but he won her over with his dazzling smile and charming wit. Today there would be others to meet and impress.

He made his way past the clutter of the small studio apartment, full of empty boxes of take out from several fast food restaurants and dirty clothes covering the floor, chair and table.

He checked his smile one last time in the entryway mirror before heading off to work.

Simon arrived at his new manager’s office with a razor-sharp crease in his slacks, spit-shined shoes, and a winning smile–exactly ten minutes late.

Juliet stepped out of the shower and walked around the bed that took up much of the space in her living quarters, a bed much too big for the single person who occupied it every night alone. She opened the closet and looked over her meager wardrobe. She needed more clothes; she couldn’t remember the last time she’d had something new and stylish that no one else had worn before her. She hoped that after payday she could afford one nice outfit at the consignment shop across from the mall. It was embarrassing to wear one of her four different work outfits day after day.

She knew that she had to make a payment on those credit card bills, she was lucky that it was only half of the debt from her marriage, and that she hadn’t added anything to it this month. She couldn’t forget about the Federal Government and those back taxes that she owed, either. She still didn’t understand that. How was it that she was responsible for paying half of the back taxes that her ex and she owed? He was a successful doctor now with tons of money, yet the judge had still assigned half of the debt to her. He had also awarded her a lump sum settlement instead of alimony payments, but Juliet had completely used that up in the months following the divorce.

This was not a good way to start the day. She looked over at the wall where her latest artwork hung. It was a smiling fairy with a caption that read “Think Happy Thoughts,” staring back at her.

Juliet smiled and picked out the clothes that she had worn four days ago, thinking about her job. She’d been lucky to find it six months ago with little work experience and no experience dealing with the public. She proved herself a tireless employee, and her coworkers loved her. Being surrounded by books all day brought her joy. She’d always loved books; just the smell of them delighted her. She hadn’t had the opportunity to read in those five long years of dinner parties and late nights out with her husband’s career-advancing contacts.

At the bookstore, she saw people who were for the most part in a good mood. People didn’t seem to go to bookstores when they were in a bad mood. She had to admit her life was improving. She had even made a couple of friends.

She folded up the bed and as it disappeared into the wall, noticed how much space she actually had. A dark thought occurred as she contemplated that her bathroom alone in the nice upper middle class home that they bought right osmanbey escort before the divorce had more space than this.

She looked over at the wise fairy again and smiled. She wouldn’t always be living in the town’s smallest apartment, existing mainly on fruit and veggies and day-old bread. She picked up her bus pass, gathered her lunch, and the book that she needed to return. Her boss allowed her to borrow books that hadn’t sold in six months if she was careful not to break the spine, before they were returned to the vendor. She left her home with a bounce in her step.

“Good morning,” Simon said with an award-winning smile.

A well-dressed woman looked up from the report in front of her and glanced at her watch. Her face took on a serious frown. Janice King was a professional woman in her mid-thirties. She radiated competence and professionalism. His demeanor did not impress her, her no-nonsense approach to her employees showed plainly on her face.

“Mr. Paris, you are late. Did you have trouble getting here this morning?”

Whoa! What had happened to the woman he had charmed during his interview? Now she was getting all professional on him, and over a measly ten minutes! Well, he hadn’t met a female yet who could resist him, so it was just going to take a little damage control and she would be firmly back in his corner where she belonged. Simon took a moment to assess the situation and determine his best response.

“I’m so sorry, ma’am. I had to stop on my way here to help a little senior citizen lady whose car wouldn’t start. She just needed a ride back to her house, but it took me out of my way. I realized it would make me a bit late, but I just couldn’t drive past her, bless her heart. She was crying and looked so helpless there, and I was reminded of my own sweet grandmother. I do hope you will forgive me and I promise I won’t let it happen again, Ms. King.” He added a wholesome smile, the one he reserved for the most hard-to-please females he dealt with–equal parts aw-shucks ma’am and give me an hour and I’ll rock your world! It worked.

The look on Ms. King’s face indicated that she didn’t quite believe him, but a hint of a smile appeared as she said, “Very well, Mr. Paris. I’ll take you to meet Joe Adams; he’ll be your partner and will explain your duties. You look very … um, professional in your uniform, I must say.” She followed this statement with a long, slow perusal that started at his hat and went all the way to his shoes, with some significant pauses along the way.

Simon smiled to himself. Women are so easy, he thought as Ms. King (Janice) escorted him down the hall to the security office. She led him to a room with one entire wall full of monitors showing black and white images of various angles of the entire mall. Joe Adams sat in a chair with a cup of coffee in one hand staring intently at the screens. He wore a headset and was busy zooming in on one of the cameras aimed at the parking lot. He looked up as Ms. King and Simon entered.

“Joe, this is the new security guard, Simon Paris,” she turned to Simon, “this is Joe Adams, he has been a security guard here for the past ten years, he knows this mall like the back of his hand. Listen to him closely.”

After a few other pleasantries, Janice left them to get acquainted. Joe and Simon became instant friends partially because of Simon’s charm and partially because of Joe’s loneliness. Joe, a man about forty years old, explained that they were not really cops. They were security guards, eyes and ears only, as he put it. They couldn’t carry guns or Tasers or nightsticks. They even had to be careful when touching a patron. Joe cautioned Simon to always be in view of the cameras, “you never know when you might need a witness and video verification.” Joe would monitor the cameras and Simon would walk the mall.

Simon wasn’t allowed to legally apprehend anyone, but could escort him or her to a holding area to wait for the police. He wasn’t allowed to use force of any kind. This job was primarily to chase off skateboarders and to identify shoplifters.

Joe and Simon would be in radio contact the entire time of their shift, and Joe would inform Simon of where the eye candy was, “one of the perks of the job,” he said. “There were a lot of hot women at this mall.” This was the main reason Simon thought this to be his ideal job and smiled knowingly. He knew he could get Joe to assist in his goals to get women. All he had to do was to throw Joe a few crumbs now and then or merely share his exploits.

Simon placed the earpiece over his left ear, tested it, and walked out the door eager to start his new adventure. He began by checking out all of the camera locations as Joe had instructed. Joe’s voice announced a camera to Simon’s right on top of the Play-Co store and another atop a light pole in front of him. Simon made special note of the areas the cameras couldn’t see. “How about here?” Simon asked. “Am I still in camera view?”

Receiving an affirmative response, Simon asked, mahmutbey escort “Where is the camera?” Joe thought Simon was making sure he knew where he should be at all times anywhere in the mall, but Simon made special note of the areas the camera couldn’t see.

He strolled the sterile environment that was so much like him. Everything was posed and in its proper location designed to make the perfect impression to the customers. He walked past the artificial pond with the sculptured fish jumping out of the water supported only by a metal pole. He wanted to know what areas the cameras covered and, more importantly, where the blind spots were.

Joe was very pleased with this level of scrutiny, as the previous guard didn’t believe in cameras. Joe explained where the cameras were, what areas they covered, and the zoom features of each. Simon made mental notes on each of the blind spots, telling Joe that he would be sure to focus his attention on them while maintaining radio contact. His responsibility was to see more than the camera could.

Simon concentrated on his walk. The walk he had perfected years ago after seeing Saturday Night Fever. He’d already had several of the female shoppers checking him out as he walked by. He had perfected his walk over the years; it wasn’t a sway—that’s where most men made their mistake. It was a long, practiced flexing of each cheek as he moved. It’s a dance and one that woman loved to watch. He could feel the eyes on his butt as he passed by.

Today, he just wanted the women to notice him; he would begin his approach tomorrow. Today he just wanted the question on everyone woman’s mind: who was that new security guard?

Joe told him about the new stores that Janice had enticed to open here. There were the standard stores that you would find in most malls: a big department store, a luggage store, a bookstore, and many other specialty shops. There were also some interesting new stores. Simon took all of this in, evaluating what stores would attract the more desirable women. The luggage store didn’t interest him at all. The bookstore held some promise of lonely women eager to make the acquaintance of an attractive man.

Janice worked hard to revive an old established mall with new, hot stores. She wanted a younger, more active clientele here. One of the stores that Joe directed Simon, Peek-a-Boo, catered to the woman who wanted revealing and sexy clothing and lingerie. Sheer Delight Fashions had the cutting edge of clothing, definitely not mainstream. Drive Him Wild was a surprise to Simon. It was a leather and rubber fetish store. Now that was interesting. Most of the other new stores were for women already in relationships and not really available. Joe was a novice at women and Simon could steer him to the much easier scores.

There was a newly installed camera pointed at the front door of each of these stores. Joe said that the new cameras made him want to come to work each day. They both shared a laugh completely understanding each other over the radio. The women exiting these stores with shopping bags had a look that both Joe and Simon wished indicated thoughts of them instead of whatever boyfriend they were thinking of.

Simon made eye contact with several women, flashing his smile on his second pass through the mall. He never stopped to talk to any of them–that would come later.

At the end of his second round, he went back to the security room in order to give Joe a break. He knew the camera and monitor system. Joe had explained the surveillance system earlier and now that he had had a first hand look at the camera locations and the mall itself, he understood it better.

As usual, Joe went to the food court to get something to bring back to his desk. Simon monitored the cameras while Joe was gone. Joe said that it would give him experience following someone on the monitors if he followed Joe’s progress through the mall. He also checked the interesting areas where most of the women were. He made more mental notes.

Joe arrived back from the food court and asked, “Did you have any trouble following me on the monitors?”

“Not at all, it was actually easier than I thought it would be, and I noticed when you went into that blind spot behind the luggage store and you didn’t come out when I expected,” Simon said.

“I thought that would throw you. There are a number of places that I could have gone to lose you, but I thought that I’d go easy on you since it’s your first day,” Joe laughed.

They continued to talk about the security system, its strengths and weaknesses. Joe suddenly changed topics by saying, “I’ve noticed the way that the women watched you while you were walking your rounds.”

“I work it.” Simon said, “Women are so easy, they are so taken in by anyone that looks good.”

“Can you teach me how to do that?” Joe asked.

“Sure, first we’ve got to get you looking good so women will notice. Do you have a gym membership?”

“Yeah, but I don’t use it very often.”

“Start. Work arnavutköy escort out for an hour each day, and then I’ll teach you how to dress so you can make heads turn. I have to get back on my rounds. Watch the way I walk. It shows a lot to women when you walk with confidence. I noticed the other day when you went to lunch that you walk like you’re on the wrong kind of mission. You walked to get lunch instead of to be seen.” Simon left his friend and went back out into the mall.

The radio in his ear announced, “Check out that blond heading into the food court. She’s an eight at least.”

Simon responded, “Look at her walk; she’s a waste of your time. She knows that she’s hot shit. She is using her body as bait to all of the men within fifty feet of her. She just wants them to fall all over themselves trying to get to her, so that she can take her pick and blow off everyone else.

Simon and Joe chatted about women; rating each one that they focused on and the reasons for the ratings that each gave. Simon continued to scan for women that he would approach later. His smile was a weapon he used effectively. Most women would blush when they caught sight of that smile. The only exception was one woman reading on a bench in the center of the mall.

Joe was impressed by the way that Simon used his body and smile on the unsuspecting women. He never interrupted Simon while he was working with the mundane tasks of surveillance. Simon’s work interested Joe and he desperately wanted to learn how Simon piqued the interest of so many women without seeming to do much at all. The afternoon seemed to fly by even though there was only one incident requiring their attention; a couple of skateboarders needed to be chased off.

The nightshift relieved them and they each went home looking forward to tomorrow morning when they could work together again.

The next morning, Simon arrived on time. He had plans and as soon as he entered the mall, he saw his first target.

“Hello there,” he announced to an attractive young woman, “didn’t I see you here yesterday?”

“Why yes,” she blushed, “how very observant of you.”

“It’s hard to forget a beauty like you.” He beamed.

She smiled, trying hard not to laugh at the old pick-up line, but he was cute and she could handle an old line from someone like him.

“Actually, “he continued, “I’m the new security guard here and it’s my job to notice everything, not that you aren’t very attractive. I was wondering if you work in this store.”

Her demeanor changed instantly from condescending to respect. It was obvious he was a security guard by the uniform, but to have him be focused on the job instead of flirting gave her a different impression of him.

“Yes I do, as a matter of fact,” she said.

“I thought so. My name is Simon, and if there is anything that you need, just ask. I’ll be around keeping track of all of the comings and goings.” He punctuated his comment with that deadly smile of his and walked away.

He continued his rounds with his smile at full power. He said “Good morning” to most of the women he saw along the way, with several getting the slight nod of his head in their direction coupled with his finger touching the brim of his hat. Joe noticed that the women seemed to like the attention Simon showed them.

Simon felt the eyes of most of the women following him. He was being noticed and he loved it. He turned the corner and approached Sheer Delight Fashions. Two women looked up as they left the store. He turned on the charm and said, “Good morning, ladies.”

“Hi,” said one, “are you new here? We saw you yesterday.”

“Yes, I just started. My name is Simon and I’m the new security guard, paid to keep you safe,” he said with a playful laugh in his voice.

“And who is going to keep you safe from us?” one of the women asked with a smirk. Her friend started to blush.

“Do I need protection?” Simon grinned back.

“You might,” she answered. “Are you married? My name is Gail, and this is Jen.”

“Hello, Gail. Hello, Jen. No, I’m not married. Why?” He knew exactly why she had asked the question, but he played along.

“Because I want to suck you until your eyes bug out,” she teased.

“Really?” Simon said, returning the same teasing smile. Jen took a step back, her face now a deep red.

“Did I embarrass you?” Gail asked.

“Not at all.” Simon said, “as a matter of fact, that is the best offer that I’ve had all day.”

“You don’t think that I’m serious, do you?” she challenged.

“Truthfully, I hope that you are, but it doesn’t matter if you’re not. It has been a real pleasure talking to you.” Simon turned to leave, but not before blasting her with that disarming smile of his.

“Wait!” she said, “As a security guard, aren’t you required to make sure that I’m not a shoplifter or something?”

“I’m sure that you’re not.” Simon recognized the game that she wanted to play. “I’m sure that you have a receipt for those clothes, don’t you?” This was the game younger women played. It really wasn’t about him, but he could benefit. Gail’s goal was to embarrass Jill and him with her sexual openness. He would just keep the flirting going and not back down as she expected until she got in over her head and had to make good on her promises or risk embarrassment. She would expect him to be a safe target since he was “on duty”.
